The PPM Engineer is responsible for delivering an effective planned preventative maintenance programme across all production and site equipment within an ice cream manufacturing facility. The role ensures machinery reliability, minimises downtime, and supports efficient, safe, and compliant production operations.
Job Purpose
The PPM Engineer is accountable for the planned maintenance schedule and activities to support continuous production and compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the site PPM schedule for all machinery and equipment.
- Carry out planned maintenance activities across production lines, including pasteurisation, filling, freezing, and packaging equipment.
- Ensure all maintenance tasks are completed in line with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards.
- Diagnose faults and support reactive maintenance to minimise production downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and documentation in line with audit requirements.
- Work closely with production teams to plan maintenance activities with minimal disruption to operations.
- Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment and machinery.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in equipment reliability and maintenance processes.
- Ensure spare parts stock levels are maintained and controlled effectively.
- Assist with root cause analysis of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Comply with all company policies, including HACCP, GMP, and engineering standards.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a maintenance engineering role within a food manufacturing environment (ice cream or dairy highly desirable).
- Strong understanding of PPM systems and maintenance planning.
- Multi-skilled engineer (mechanical and electrical preferred).
- Experience with fault finding on automated production equipment.
- Knowledge of food safety standards (HACCP, GMP).
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills across engineering and production teams.
