We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing PLC Engineer with in-depth Tetra Pak knowledge to support, maintain, and develop our ice cream manufacturing operations. The role is critical in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement of automated production and packaging systems across the site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical ownership and expert support for PLC-controlled manufacturing and packaging equipment, with a strong focus on Tetra Pak processing and filling lines.
  • Diagnose, fault‑find, and resolve PLC, HMI, and automation issues to minimise downtime and maintain production efficiency.
  • Develop, modify, and optimise PLC programs (including Siemens / Allen Bradley, as applicable) to improve performance, quality, and safety.
  • Support commissioning, installation, and validation of new or upgraded Tetra Pak equipment and production lines.
  • Work closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams to ensure equipment operates in line with food safety, hygiene, and compliance standards.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, including cycle time reduction, waste minimisation, and energy efficiency.
  • Manage and maintain automation documentation, backups, and change control procedures.
  • Liaise with Tetra Pak engineers, OEMs, and external contractors as required.
  • Support training and upskilling of engineering and operations teams on automation systems.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with health & safety, food safety, and site engineering standards.
Skills & Experience
  • Extensive hands‑on experience as a PLC / Automation Engineer within food or ice cream manufacturing.
  • Strong, demonstrable experience with Tetra Pak equipment (processing, filling, freezing, or packaging systems).
  • Proven PLC programming and fault‑finding skills (e.g. Siemens S7 / TIA Portal, Allen Bradley).
  • Strong understanding of hygienic design, CIP systems, and food manufacturing compliance.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills with a structured, data‑driven approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross‑functionally.
Qualifications
  • HNC / HND / Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Relevant electrical or automation certifications (desirable).
