Role: Technician – Electrical Installations
Location: Bedford College – Cauldwell Street Campus
Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £23,557 and £26,754 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year
Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About The Role
We are currently seeking a Technician in Electrical Installations to join our Construction department at The Bedford College Group. As a Technician, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
- Workshop & Lecturer Support – Provide practical assistance in Electrical Installations and wider Construction workshops, helping learners and supporting lecturers/trainers to deliver high‑quality practical sessions.
- Tools, Equipment & Workshop Maintenance – Maintain, service and repair tools and equipment, prepare work areas, manage consumables and ensure all workshop spaces remain safe, clean, organised and hazard‑free.
- Stock Control & Systems Administration – Develop and manage secure systems for equipment sign‑in/out, complete annual inventories, process purchase requisitions and monitor expenditure against allocated budgets.
- Safety, Compliance & Behaviour Management – Uphold Health & Safety and COSHH requirements, support site security, manage student behaviour appropriately and ensure full compliance with safeguarding and college procedures.
- College‑Wide Support & Engagement – Assist with marketing and engagement events, collaborate across Construction teams, and undertake additional duties as required by the Head of Construction while maintaining professionalism and EDI standards.
About You
- Qualifications & Industry Background – Level 2 NVQ/Diploma in a construction trade, GCSE‑level English and maths (or willingness to achieve), with practical experience working in the electrical industry.
- Technical Knowledge & Safe Practice – Strong understanding of safe working practices relating to electrical equipment, along with awareness of wider construction trades and current industry practices.
- Workshop Skills & Independence – Able to prepare, maintain and repair tools and equipment, manage stock inventories, work independently with minimal supervision and consistently support high‑quality learning environments.
- Professional Conduct, Values & Communication – Demonstrates professionalism in promoting the organisation’s reputation, communicates confidently across all channels and works in line with values of Student Focus, High Performance, Respect, Openness and Honesty.
- Safeguarding, Flexibility & Development – Committed to safeguarding, maintaining appropriate boundaries, updating skills, working flexibly across locations and upholding health & safety requirements.
