Technician – Construction

Location: Tresham College – Corby Campus

Salary / Benefits: Salary between £23,557 and £25,849 per annum (Pro‑Rata) DOE and qualifications, 27 days annual leave pro‑rata plus bank holidays, people’s pension, retail and leisure discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours / Weeks: 14.8 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

About the Role

We are currently seeking a Technician in Construction to join our Construction department at The Bedford College Group.

Responsibilities

  • Workshop Maintenance & Safety – ensures all tools, equipment, and materials are secure, serviceable, and compliant with health and safety standards, maintaining a clean and hazard‑free environment.
  • Stock & Resource Management – manages consumables, equipment inventory, and budget tracking, including ordering, receiving, and maintaining accurate records of stock and tool usage.
  • Support for Teaching & Learning – assists lecturers and trainers in workshop preparation, supports practical delivery, and manufactures teaching aids to enhance student learning experiences.
  • Operational Duties & Compliance – oversees workshop discipline, site security, and risk assessments, while ensuring all activities align with college policies and safety regulations.
  • Student & College Engagement – supports student development, contributes to marketing and engagement events, and upholds safeguarding, EDI, and professional standards across all construction workshop areas.

About You

  • Qualifications & Industry Experience – holds a Level 2 NVQ/Diploma in a construction or building services trade, with hands‑on experience in the construction industry and a willingness to gain First Aid and forklift certification.
  • Technical Knowledge & Safety Awareness – demonstrates strong understanding of safe working practices, COSHH, hand tools, and machinery, with awareness of current construction industry standards.
  • Professional Skills & Values – organised, self‑motivated, and aligned with values such as student focus, high performance, and respect; consistently supports a high‑quality learning environment.
  • Communication & Teamwork – communicates confidently across formats, maintains accurate records, and contributes positively to team dynamics while respecting others’ expertise.
