Location: Tresham College – Across Northamptonshire Sites

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £33,048 and £38,169 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, 45 days annual leave (Pro-Rata) plus Bank holidays, Teacher’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 29.6 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Part Time

Responsibilities

We are currently seeking a Lecturer in ESOL to join our Adult and Community Learning and ESOL department at The Bedford College Group. As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • ESOL Teaching & Learner Assessment – Plan, deliver and assess ESOL provision for 16–18 and adult learners (day and evening), including interviews, initial assessments, course allocation and progression support.
  • Teaching, Learning & Inclusive Practice – Create engaging, inclusive learning environments using a range of teaching strategies and ILT resources, recognising diverse cultural, social and educational needs.
  • Assessment, Progress & Quality Monitoring – Track, monitor and report learner progress, participate in moderation and marking, and measure effectiveness against quality, retention and achievement indicators.
  • Professional Knowledge & Curriculum Delivery – Apply strong subject expertise, learning theory and curriculum development practices, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of FE, ESOL developments and sector initiatives through reflection and CPD.
  • College-Wide Contribution & Compliance – Support cross-college activities, exams and events, maintain accurate administration, and uphold safeguarding, equality, health & safety and training responsibilities in line with College policy.

About You

  • Qualifications & Teaching Credentials – Degree (or equivalent) in ESOL/English, minimum ESOL-specific teaching qualification (CELTA/Trinity), GCSE Maths and English (Grade A–C/Level 2), and willingness to achieve DET or PGCE (PCET).
  • ESOL & Functional Skills Expertise – Demonstrable success teaching ESOL across a range of levels and ages, including adults and evening provision, with experience of delivering Functional Skills English.
  • Teaching Quality & Learner Outcomes – Enthusiastic, self-motivated practitioner focused on achieving outstanding learner retention, progression and success rates.
  • Communication, Inclusion & Equality – Strong communication skills with clear understanding of equality, diversity and inclusive teaching practice.
  • Flexibility & Mobility – Able to deliver evening classes and travel across multiple sites, holding a full UK driving licence with access to own vehicle.
