We are currently seeking a Lecturer in English (Adult Functional Skills and GCSE) to join our ESOL and Basic Skills department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Teaching & Delivery – Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging English lessons for adult learners across Tresham campuses, including day and evening classes.
  • Assessment & Progress Monitoring – Conduct initial assessments, track student progress, provide guidance, and liaise with relevant staff to support learner development.
  • Curriculum & Professional Practice – Maintain up-to-date knowledge of curriculum models, teaching methodologies, and subject-specific developments to ensure high-quality, inclusive education.
  • Compliance & Safeguarding – Uphold statutory responsibilities including safeguarding, equality and diversity, health and safety, and ensure all administrative and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Continuous Development – Engage in ongoing professional development, reflect on teaching practices, and adapt to changes in the FE sector to enhance teaching effectiveness.

About You

  • Qualifications & Education – Degree in English or related subject, with GCSE-level Maths and English (Grade A–C or Level 2 equivalent).
  • Teaching Credentials – Hold or be working towards a DET (Diploma in Education & Training) and possess a minimum teaching qualification specific to the role.
  • Experience & Knowledge – Proven success in teaching English across various levels and groups, with a strong understanding of Equality and Diversity.
  • Skills & Attributes – Excellent communication, self-motivation, enthusiasm, and a focus on achieving high retention and success rates.
  • Flexibility & Mobility – Ability to teach both day and evening classes, with a full driver’s license and access to a vehicle for travel across three sites.
