Location: Central Bedfordshire College – Dunstable – Various Sites

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £24,552 and £26,754 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About the role: We are currently seeking a Motor Vehicle Technician to join our Motor Vehicle department at The Bedford College Group. As a Technician, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Practical Learning & Student Support: Support students during motor vehicle workshop activities, providing guidance on maintenance, repair, diagnostic tasks, and assessment evidence while promoting safe working practices, positive behaviour, and learner engagement.
  • Workshop Preparation & Technical Support: Prepare vehicles, tools, equipment, materials, and learning resources for practical sessions, assisting teaching staff in delivering effective, high-quality learning experiences.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance Management: Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant workshop environment, including equipment inspections, COSHH management, risk assessment support, hazard reporting, and adherence to health and safety regulations.
  • Resource, Stock & Administrative Control: Manage stock levels, maintain inventories, support ordering processes, securely store equipment and materials, and maintain accurate records for audits, inspections, and quality assurance purposes.
  • Teamwork, Professional Development & College Values: Work collaboratively with lecturers and support staff, remain up to date with motor vehicle industry developments, support college-wide activities, and uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion, and learner wellbeing standards.

About you:

  • Technical & Industry Expertise: Relevant occupational competence in Motor Vehicle and/or Engineering, with current industry-standard vocational skills, recent industry experience, and up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies, quality assurance systems, awarding body requirements, and industry regulations.
  • Workshop Support, Health & Safety & Compliance: Strong knowledge of health and safety practices, with the ability to apply safety principles effectively, support compliance requirements, maintain quality standards, and ensure practical activities operate safely and efficiently.
  • Learner Support & Communication Skills: Ability to demonstrate practical techniques, motivate and inspire learners, communicate effectively with students and colleagues, and contribute positively to learner achievement and success.
  • Organisation, Problem Solving & Professionalism: Strong organisational and time management skills, attention to detail, effective workload prioritisation, and the ability to resolve problems quickly within a busy workshop environment while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Teamwork & Continuous Development: Collaborative and learner-focused approach, commitment to continuous professional development, willingness to maintain current industry knowledge, reflective working practices, flexibility, and commitment to safeguarding and professional standards.
