Role: Additional Learning Support (ALS) Advisor

Location: The Bedford Sixth Form

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £27,717 and £32,515 per annum, DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About The Role

We are currently seeking an ALS Advisor to join our Foundation Learning & Additional Learning Support department at The Bedford College Group.

  • SEND Support Planning & Review - Develop and implement individual support plans for students with SEND, regularly reviewing and adapting strategies to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Staff Guidance & Inclusive Practice - Advise and support curriculum staff on SEND needs and inclusive strategies, ensuring consistent and effective classroom implementation.
  • Student Mentoring & Development - Provide targeted mentoring and guidance to students, building confidence, independence, and engagement in learning.
  • Quality Monitoring & Collaboration - Conduct classroom observations, build strong relationships with staff and students, and promote continuous improvement in inclusive practice.
  • Promotion & Compliance - Represent the College at events, maintain knowledge of SEND processes, and uphold safeguarding, EDI, health & safety, and professional development standards.

About You

  • Qualifications & Knowledge - Level 2 Maths and English with a relevant Level 3 qualification (or willingness), and strong knowledge of SEND Code of Practice, safeguarding, and post-16 education.
  • SEND & Educational Experience - Experience supporting young people with a range of additional needs in educational settings, including working with curriculum teams and external agencies.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills - Strong ability to communicate with students, staff, parents, and external partners, building positive relationships and delivering clear guidance and support.
  • Organisation & Technical Skills - Highly organised with strong IT and administrative skills, able to produce professional reports, manage workloads, and maintain confidentiality and data protection.
  • Professionalism & Flexibility - Positive, adaptable approach with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, travel across sites, and uphold safeguarding responsibilities and professional boundaries.
