Location: Shuttleworth College – Old Warden

Salary and Benefits: Salary between £29,870 and £39,696 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications, plus a salary uplift of up to £10,000 for the right candidate. Benefits include 35 days annual leave plus bank holidays, Teacher's pension, Retail and Leisure discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, and access to college courses.

Hours and Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year.

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time.

Legal and Right to Work: UK based contract. Candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK; sponsorship is not offered. Employment offers are subject to evidence of Right to Work.

About the Role: We seek two Aviation Tutors in Engineering to join our Aviation department at the Bedford College Group.

  • Responsibilities:
  • Programme delivery & assessment – design and deliver engaging aviation apprenticeship content using diverse instructional techniques and assess knowledge, skills, and behaviours to support learner success and EPA readiness.
  • Workshop & technical training – lead practical training in aerospace engineering disciplines such as hand fitting, sheet metal work, and mechanical fasteners, while promoting health and safety.
  • Curriculum & quality assurance – develop lesson plans, schemes of work, contribute to SAR and audits, and support internal quality processes to maintain high programme standards.
  • Learner support & engagement – conduct progress reviews, support induction and skill scans, foster learner participation through mentoring and team activities.
  • Compliance & professional development – uphold safeguarding, EDI, and health and safety policies, engage in CPD, and maintain industry knowledge to ensure relevant and professional delivery across all locations.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Hold assessor awards (D32/33, A1/A2, TAQA, or Level 3 Award) and completed a time-served aviation apprenticeship or equivalent, with relevant aerospace industry experience in MRO environments.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of aircraft maintenance, structural competencies, and fundamental engineering skills including hand fitting, fasteners, and sheet metal work.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving abilities, with capacity to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and produce accurate documentation and reports.
  • Passionate about developing others, contribute to a supportive learning environment, and work collaboratively with staff and students while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Align with organisational values, promote safeguarding and EDI, and maintain flexibility and commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
