BBC Radio Suffolk is looking for a great journalist with sharp writing skills and strong editorial judgement to work as part of the breakfast team. You will help shape the daily news agenda by identifying and setting up agenda-setting stories for our flagship breakfast programme, ensuring our coverage reflects the stories that matter in Suffolk and drives the conversation across the county.
Responsibilities
- Set up agenda-setting stories for the breakfast show, ensuring coverage reflects the stories that matter in Suffolk and helps drive the conversation across the county.
- Support the breakfast presenter by supplying strong story lines, effective briefings and material that provokes opinion, encourages reaction and sometimes brings a smile.
- Write and structure scripts and cues with accuracy, clarity, wit and flair, often under pressure.
- Generate original story ideas that connect with local audiences and attract new ones.
- Work collaboratively with presenters, reporters, editors and production colleagues across BBC Local.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues throughout the BBC.
Qualifications
- First-class writing, production and organisational skills.
- Good knowledge of Suffolk and a clear ability to identify, understand and reflect the stories that matter to people here.
- The ability to support a presenter effectively, offering story ideas, context and insight that provoke opinion, spark reaction and bring warmth or humour.
- Strong editorial judgement and an understanding of the BBC's audiences and distinctive news values.
- Excellent communication skills, with a commitment to dealing with colleagues in an inclusive, nurturing and kind manner.
