The Digital News Editor role will lead our Online, Social and Local Story Teams across Hull and Lincoln, shaping how audiences understand this diverse region. As a senior leader, it sets the daily editorial agenda, ensures BBC standards and drives innovation in a rapidly growing digital space. This new position strengthens our newsroom, aligns us with colleagues across England and ensures high quality, trusted journalism reaches audiences wherever they are, every single day.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the day to day running of a large, fast paced news operation across a wide and diverse geographical patch, working closely with the Senior News Editor and fellow leaders to make editorial decisions that best reflect our audiences.
  • Head the digital team, overseeing the commissioning, production and delivery of all online and social media content.
  • Line manage, develop and support a large team while confidently handling HR processes.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire's strongest journalism reaches audiences with maximum impact.
  • Uphold the highest editorial standards, ensuring all output is accurate, fair and legally compliant.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience in digital leadership.
  • Strong management and leadership experience, with a track record of developing teams.
  • Outstanding editorial judgement and a thorough understanding of legal responsibilities.
  • Experience in sub-editing and publishing online content.
  • A deep understanding of what resonates with online audiences and how to grow the reach and impact of digital stories.

Desirable but not required:

  • Familiarity with BBC editorial guidelines and compliance.
  • Knowledge of East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire's local issues and audience needs.
  • Background in mentoring or coaching journalists.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across platforms, ideally including TV and radio.
