The role will also support the development of the design practice in the education and learning domain, helping to future‐proof Bitesize. This is a senior role in scope, influence, and accountability. You'll be expected to identify and frame problems, set direction, and influence decisions beyond your immediate team. You'll work closely with senior product, engineering, editorial and delivery partners, often as part of a trio, to ensure we're solving the right problems and delivering inclusive, high‐quality outcomes aligned to organisational strategy. This role is for designers who lead through judgement, influence, and care for outcomes, alongside craft excellence. Delivering world class experiences for all.
Responsibilities
- Help define approaches and techniques for articulating aims and objectives to create learning journeys aligned to curricula, with measurable outcomes and effective assessment strategies.
- Lead problem definition and design direction across multiple problem spaces.
- Take accountability for design outcomes, not just outputs.
- Align design activity to strategic objectives and audience value.
- Influence priorities and decisions with senior stakeholders, using evidence and clear reasoning.
- Balance quality, pragmatism and delivery constraints across complex initiatives.
- Balance 'engagement' (gamification, interactivity) with pedagogical rigor and factual correctness.
- Raise the quality of learning and instructional design practice through coaching the wider team.
- Have practical experience applying accessibility and inclusive design practices.
- Support and mentor other designers through day‐to‐day collaboration.
Qualifications
- This Senior Learning Experience Designer role requires experience in instructional design and educational technology at scale, with a strong background in curriculum development and digital pedagogy.
- Previous experience in applying learning theory and frameworks (e.g., Bloom's, constructivism) to shape engaging educational experiences.
- Examples of iteratively refining designs using audience feedback, analytics and testing, in collaboration with a Learning Scientist.
- Experience of designing and conducting research for younger audiences (under 18s), with a strong understanding of their needs.
- Examples of leading end‐to‐end design of complex digital products and services across multiple workstreams.
- Demonstrable examples of championing accessibility, quality and best practice, balancing high standards with pragmatic delivery.
- Ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders, navigating competing priorities and working within brand and design systems.
