Who are we? Established in 2018, The Basic Ingredients Ltd is a BRCGS Grade AA certified food company based in London. We specialise in clean-label ingredients for home cooking under our trademark brand, Emma Basic. Emma Basic promises: 'Never Any Additives'. By choosing Emma Basic, all additives such as emulsifiers, sweeteners, colourings, and ultra-processed elements like refined oils are removed. The brand focuses on transparency, safety, and well-being — offering wholesome, high-quality food that supports healthier living. With a competent, high-performing, streamlined team of only 10, we generate annual revenues of just under £10 million. Our core markets include the UK, EU, and the Far East. We work fast — every team member has commercial impact and direct access to the leadership. We are committed to what we do and believe in the change we can make. You will be professionally trained, trusted, respected, and appreciated.

Job Description:

  • Achieve agreed sales and margin targets across both new and existing accounts.
  • Develop new customers — particularly in fitness clubs, delicatessens, farm shops, foodservice, and ready-meal manufacturers.
  • Enhance existing customer relationships through disciplined account management.
  • Lead relevant trade shows and represent the company professionally at industry events; bring back actionable customer and competitor insight.
  • Contribute to continuous brand development through complaints handling, competitor benchmarking, and product inspection, feeding learnings back to buying and technical colleagues.
  • Deliver after-sales service: in line with BRCGS Standard 3.8, ensure that complaints are recorded, communicated, and investigated; that corrective and preventative actions are agreed; and that customers are satisfied with the resolution.
  • Stock management duties: work closely with the buying team on stock levels, demand forecasting, and timely communication of customer usage changes to ensure customers do not face out-of-stock situations and to avoid write-off risk to the Company.

Competencies expected:

  • Commercially fast — you focus on what drives revenue, act without being chased, and are driven to win accounts and exceed your numbers.
  • Committed and present — to your customers, your colleagues, and the Company's standards; a strong listener in both directions.
  • Sharp on the detail — pricing, contracts, payment terms, SAP entry; you get it right first time.
  • Food-literate — genuinely curious about ingredients, sustainability, and food safety; familiar with BRC Issue 9 and HACCP, or determined to get there quickly.

What we offer:

  • Basic annual salary of £31–40K. Your starting point within this range reflects the track record you can demonstrate in winning new business quickly — not years of experience.
  • Quarterly incentive based on year-on-year gross profit growth.
  • Year-end bonus based on Company and personal performance.
  • Personal development budget of £2,000 annually — courses, training.
  • Workplace pension – 5% Employer Contribution.
  • Free supply of Emma Basic products for personal use.
  • 30 days of paid holiday annually (inclusive of bank holidays).

How to apply:

Please send your CV to talent@thebasicingredients.com with a short covering note addressing: (a) one example of a new account you won from scratch — what you did, and how quickly you got the customer to first order; (b) your experience in food or FMCG sales (sectors, customer types, order values); (c) your food safety knowledge — BRC, HACCP, or relevant qualifications; and (d) why Emma Basic. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered. We recruit on a rolling basis and review applications as they arrive — early applications are encouraged.
