The Bar Standards Board (BSB) is recruiting for a Business Manager to support their Regulatory Enforcement activities. A new role to the organisation, the post holder will join at an important time, whilst the BSB focuses on improving service delivery across its regulatory operations.

The Business Manager will manage, assure and optimise the performance of multiple outsourced service providers delivering investigations, enforcement and related regulatory services, ensuring outcomes are timely, high-quality, proportionate, consistent and legally robust, and aligned with the regulator's statutory duties, regulatory objectives and public-interest remit. The successful candidate should be available to commence work in April.

Key responsibilities of the post:

  • Act as the primary relationship manager for outsourced investigations and enforcement providers.
  • Establish clear expectations, service standards and ways of working with each provider.
  • Monitor provider performance against agreed KPIs and service levels (e.g. timeliness, throughput, quality, ageing, escalation rates).
  • Ensure outputs meet required standards of evidential quality, legal robustness and fairness.
  • Work with internal teams to forecast demand and allocate work across providers appropriately.
  • Manage contracts in line with public sector and regulatory requirements.

Key skills and experience required:

  • Proven experience managing outsourced or commissioned services in a regulated, legal, public sector or professional services environment.
  • Strong understanding of investigations, enforcement or disciplinary processes, or closely related casework.
  • Demonstrable experience of contract management, performance management and service assurance.
  • Ability to interpret and use performance data to drive improvement and manage risk.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
