The Business Scrum Lead drives agile delivery and business outcomes within a cross-functional business pod. Partnering closely with the Product Owner, stakeholders, and delivery teams, the Scrum Lead facilitates agile ceremonies, manages flow of work (inclusive of delivering business initiatives), removes impediments, manages cross platform dependencies, and continuously improves the team’s way of working. This role blends agile coaching, delivery orchestration, and stakeholder management of business centric pods to ensure value is delivered with transparency, robust timeframes and in alignment with strategic priorities.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:

  • Lead daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, focus, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with the Product Owner to ensure a clear, value-driven backlog.
  • Help the pod apply prioritization frameworks and maintain a healthy flow of work.
  • Track and improve delivery metrics (e.g., velocity, cycle time, throughput, sprint goal completion).
  • Identify and manage dependencies across teams and functions; escalate and resolve blockers quickly.
  • Provide regular, concise updates on progress, risks, and decisions.
  • Align stakeholders on scope, outcomes, timelines, and trade-offs; maintain a visible delivery roadmap.
  • Surface delivery risks early and drive mitigation plans.
  • Ensure the team follows applicable governance and control expectations in coordination with risk and compliance partners.
  • Diagnose bottlenecks and inefficiencies; experiment with data-informed improvements.
  • Coach team members and stakeholders in agile principles, roles, and practices.
  • Translate initiatives into measurable outcomes and partner with business leads to define and track benefits.
  • Ensure business kanban boards reflect delivery to quarterly objectives and strategic outcomes.
  • Maintain high-quality work tracking, managing risks and dependencies in tools such as Jira/Confluence and Tpro (or equivalents).
  • Promote shared standards for definitions of ready/done, acceptance criteria, and working agreements.

Success Measures and KPIs:

  • Delivery predictability: Scheduled milestones achievement, reduced carryover, effective leadership in quarterly planning with various stakeholders.
  • Flow efficiency: Effective dependency management, minimisation of impediments to ensure smooth strategic delivery.
  • Value realization: Measurable business outcomes linked to backlog items.
  • Stakeholder satisfaction: Improved transparency, trust, and engagement.
  • Continuous improvement: Actioned retro items and demonstrable practice maturity.
  • Governance adherence: timely risk escalation, control alignment, and audit readiness where applicable.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:

  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams in complex, regulated environments.
  • Proven experience in agile delivery, business change, or product/portfolio management, as a Scrum Master or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban) and scaling concepts (e.g., SAFe, LeSS) is a plus.
  • Certifications such as CSM/PSM, PMI-ACP, or equivalent are advantageous.
  • Strong proficiency with agile tooling (Jira, Confluence or similar) and delivery reporting.
  • Client obsession and outcome orientation—able to connect backlog items to tangible business value.
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills; adept at simplifying complexity and driving alignment.
  • Stakeholder management across business, operations, risk/compliance, and technology.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to use metrics to inform decisions and improvements.
  • Proactive problem-solving; quick to identify impediments and mobilize resolution.
  • Influence without authority; coaching mindset that elevates team capability.
  • Adaptability, curiosity, and continuous learning.
  • Operates within a cross-functional business pod, collaborating closely with Product Owner, analysts, operations, and partner teams.
  • Comfortable working across time zones and coordinating multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Supports a culture of accountability, curiosity, and collaboration aligned to BNY’s principles: Be Client Obsessed, Spark Progress, Own It, Stay Curious, and Thrive Together.
