Location: Gibraltar Hybrid Three Days in Office

Employment Type: 12-Months Maternity Cover

Hours: Monday to Friday schedule, or a 4-day working week (30 hours per week)

Join The AA's in-house underwriting business as a Technical Accountant and play a key role in strengthening financial control, reporting, and analysis. This is a hands-on position offering broad exposure across finance and accounting, with the opportunity to build your knowledge of the insurance and underwriting sector. Working within a small, experienced, and commercially minded team, you'll have the chance to make a real impact while contributing to the continued growth and development of the underwriting division. What will I be doing?

  • Managing monthly technical accounting journals and maintaining accounting files with accurate rates and data.
  • Reconciling premium income with the Pricing team to ensure financial accuracy and consistency.
  • Preparing quota share statements, resolving queries, and ensuring timely payments to partners.
  • Completing Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) returns and making payments to HMRC within required deadlines.
  • Performing balance sheet reconciliations and maintaining strong financial controls.
  • Collaborating with Finance Systems colleagues to enhance ledger integrity, controls, and reporting processes.
  • Supporting internal and external audits by providing accurate information and documentation.
  • Partnering with Group Finance teams to deliver accurate financial reporting and meet key stakeholder requirements.
  • Assisting with forecasting, planning, management information, and underwriting performance analysis across premiums, claims, and trading volumes.
  • Contributing to regulatory reporting, presentations, ad-hoc projects, and the development of junior team members.

What do I need?

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), with a strong foundation in financial accounting.
  • Experience within insurance accounting would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to analyse and interpret financial data effectively.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the confidence to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Commercially minded, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • Calm and resilient, with the ability to prioritise and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Eagerness to learn, develop new skills, and broaden knowledge within a dynamic business environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Analytical mindset, with the ability to turn data into meaningful insights and recommendations.
