This is an undergraduate opportunity for a current university student seeking a placement as part of their studies. Due to the high volume of applications, only those submitted with a covering letter will be considered.
This is the job:
During your placement year, you’ll bring your university studies to life by joining the AA’s Insurance Finance team. You’ll work at the heart of a dynamic division that spans insurance broking, underwriting, accident management, financial services, and driving schools. You’ll begin in our Accounting & Reporting team, where you’ll play a key role in producing monthly management accounts and supporting financial controls. You’ll help prepare results in line with accounting standards, understand key trends, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of the division’s balance sheet, working capital and cashflow. Once you’ve gained a solid understanding of how the business operates, you’ll move into the Business Partnering team. Here you’ll work closely with operational teams, supporting forward looking activities such as budgeting, forecasting, and analysing trading performance. You may help develop business cases for new ideas or explore how pricing decisions influence volumes and profitability. By the end of your placement, you’ll have experienced several areas of a modern finance function, applied your academic knowledge to real situations, and gained valuable insight into where your future finance career could take you.
What will I be doing?
- Supporting the month end management accounts process, helping prepare accurate financial results in line with accounting standards.
- Analysing key financial performance indicators to help us understand trends, variances, and the commercial drivers behind the numbers.
- Assisting with core financial control activities, including balance sheet integrity checks and reviewing working capital and cashflow movements.
- Gaining hands-on experience across several business units within the Insurance division, from broking and underwriting to accident management and financial services.
- Helping produce internal and external financial reports that provide insight and support effective decision making.
- Working with the Business Partnering team on forward looking activities such as budgeting, forecasting and assessing the financial impact of new initiatives.
- Presenting financial insights to stakeholders and supporting the development of business cases for new ideas or commercial changes.
What do I need?
- To be focused and action-oriented.
- Not afraid of trying new ideas.
- The ability to communicate sometimes complex concepts in a clear manner.
- The ability to apply your learned knowledge from your degree (Accounting, Finance, Mathematics or Statistics) to real-life situations.
