Welcome to Aurora Foxes, a specialist college and training hotel for young people with learning disabilities, situated in the friendly seaside town of Minehead. Foxes is a very special place. Our aim is to equip our young adults with the life and hospitality skills to become work ready, life ready.

The main purpose of the role: As one of our Chef Tutors your role is to plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate inspiring, engaging and individualised Food Preparation sessions of the highest quality that challenge and stretch every student. Your role is to help achieve our mission which is to equip young adults with learning disabilities to find sustainable employment in the hospitality sector and to live independently. Always promote a professional attitude and approach with students and learner support practitioners, to support students to develop the skills required to be 'work ready, life ready.

Key duties:

  • Effectively and professionally plan, prepare and resource highly individualised sessions of the highest quality, including those sessions where you may be absent, according to the published scheme of work.
  • Deliver professional, inspiring, and engaging sessions of the highest quality that challenge and stretch every student, and in which all students are motivated and engaged throughout.
  • Plan and prepare robust and professional assessments and ensure that all tracking (including baselining, target setting and review) and reports associated with these are completed accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner.
  • All tutors must be familiar with, and actively use the principles of RARPA (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement).
  • Work professionally and collaboratively with all colleagues and teams across the Academy, including the Therapy team and House Managers, to analyse student performance and ensure that all students make progress commensurate with their ability.
  • Ensure that all students receive professional, timely and effective feedback, with appropriate strategies (next steps) to improve their performance.
  • Prepare, direct and lead Learning Support Practitioners (LSP) within your session, and to actively always promote a professional attitude and approach with the LSP.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Level 2 in English & Maths
  • City and Guilds (Or other recognised awarding body) Hospitality and Catering Level 2 or equivalent
  • Level 3 certificate in Education
  • Level 4 certificate in Education (desirable or willing to work towards)
  • Experience of working in a hospitality catering setting.
  • Experience in vocational education (desirable).
  • Experience of working in a team setting.
