Why This Role Matters
The Video Technology Manager defines the strategic design and evolution of video systems at AP. This includes cloud-based video workflows, live studios, and live operations supporting AP's multi-channel services for customers. The role also provides advanced (Level 3) support for video systems and works closely with AP's video event business, AP360.
The Video Technology Manager will be part of the team responsible for defining and updating a comprehensive 5-year technology roadmap and delivering key video projects. This roadmap sets the strategic direction for video infrastructure, cloud-based workflows, and emerging technologies. By collaborating with editorial, revenue, and AP360 teams, the manager will gather requirements, deliver projects, and ensure the roadmap aligns with AP's overall business objectives. The goal is to stay ahead of industry trends, integrate innovative solutions, and maintain AP's competitive edge in video technology.
What You Will Do
- Oversee an international team responsible for supporting AP's editorial video and audio workflows.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for AP's cloud-based Media Asset Management (MAM) system and editing applications.
- Gather requirements from editorial, revenue, and AP360 teams to support the development of the 5-year technology roadmap.
- Collaborate with editorial experts on camera specifications, field-based workflows, including remote operations and multi-camera productions.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies and present recommendations to technology leadership on potential benefits to AP.
- Align video system design with AP's cloud-first technology strategy where practical and cost-effective.
- Define, implement, and continuously improve AP's live video production workflows.
- Evaluate emerging technologies such as cloud production platforms, virtualized control rooms, and remote production (REMI) workflows to enhance AP's live capabilities.
- Participate in on-call coverage as needed for incidents outside normal working hours, including nights, weekends and public holidays.
- Train technical operations, technical support and editorial staff as required.
- Assist AP360 in identifying appropriate technology solutions to support their operations.
- Work closely with AP360 to support live-event production needs, from early planning through technical execution.
- Establish a close working relationship with the network engineering team as video-over-IP technologies are deployed on the AP network.
- Work closely with Information Security to ensure AP's security standards are upheld when designing and deploying video systems.
Who You Are
- 5 years' experience in media or broadcasting.
- Proven experience in a broadcast environment with knowledge of video-over-IP and audio-over-IP technologies.
- HND or degree in Broadcast Technology or a related Engineering/Science field.
- Good understanding of networking principles.
- Handsâon experience with the following technologies: Media Asset Management systems and NLEs such as DaVinci Resolve / Premiere, Cameras and remote productions, AWS, including video services, REST APIs and scripting (e.g. with Python).
- Ability to travel internationally as required.
- A versatile media technologist with deep expertise in Media Asset Management (MAM) systems and modern editing applications.
- Proactive, selfâmotivated, and experienced in a video or media production environment.
- Experienced in live production and effective at partnering with editorial and operations teams to deliver reliable, highâquality output.
- A collaborative team player who contributes ideas and fosters a positive working environment.
- Comfortable working in a hybrid environment and capable of managing their workload independently.
- Strong problemâsolving and troubleshooting skills.
- Able to work effectively in a crossâfunctional technical environment and build strong working relationships.
- Capable of presenting strategic recommendationsâincluding financial considerationsâto senior managers clearly and concisely.
