Ashcourt Quarries is looking for a capable and committed Assistant Quarry Manager to join our team at Bishop Middleham Quarry. This is a key leadership role supporting the Quarry Manager and Foreman in delivering safe, compliant, and efficient operations across extraction, production, and inert landfill.

What You’ll Be Doing:
As Quarry Supervisor, you’ll work closely with the Quarry Manager and Foreman to drive daily operations and uphold high standards across the site. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supervising activities from extraction at the face to finished product and landfill operations
- Conducting daily Reg. 12 inspections, pre‑start meetings, and toolbox talks
- Leading health & safety briefings and near‑miss reporting
- Ensuring staff, contractors, and visitors are working safely and compliantly
- Liaising with weighbridge and sales teams to support production forecasts
- Overseeing maintenance needs and coordinating repairs with the Plant team
- Managing staff duties, enforcing PPE and site rules, and maintaining site standards
- Acting as the appointed person under Regulation 8(1)(d) of the Quarry Regulations 1999, stepping up in the Quarry Manager’s absence
- Supporting statutory inspections (HSE, EA, Durham CC) and helping close out NCRs
- Maintaining site records, diaries, and SHEMS updates
- Ensuring compliance with planning, permits, and company HSE policies
What You’ll Need:
- Experience in a quarry, landfill, or heavy civils environment
- Strong working knowledge of HASAWA 1974, Quarry Regulations 1999, PUWER, and other relevant legislation
- Confidence leading teams and supervising site‑based operations
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Competency (or willingness to obtain) as an appointed 8.1(d) Quarry Supervisor
Desirable (but not essential):
- IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
- SHE‑related training or experience using SHEMS systems
- Experience operating or supervising crushers, screeners, or mobile plant
