Ashcourt (Durham and Tees Valley) Limited is looking for an organised and reliable Transport Assistant to support the day-to-day administration of our transport operations.

The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the transport team, dealing with customer enquiries, processing skip and general haulage orders, maintaining transport records and assisting with general administration and accounts duties.

This is a varied role that requires strong organisational skills, good attention to detail and the ability to manage several tasks at the same time in a busy working environment.

  • Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Answer incoming telephone enquiries from customers, suppliers and colleagues.
  • Take and process customer orders for skip hire and general haulage services.
  • Ensure customer and order information is recorded accurately and passed to the relevant operational teams.
  • Collate driver day sheets and assist with progressing and maintaining information within Weigh Soft.
  • Allocate supplier Proof of Delivery documents (PODs) against the relevant invoices.
  • Maintain accurate transport and administrative records.
  • Take and process customer payments over the telephone.
  • Provide general administrative support to the transport department.
  • Assist the accounts team with relevant documentation and administrative duties.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, suppliers and other departments across the business.
  • Help ensure documentation is completed accurately and within required timescales.
  • Undertake any other reasonable administrative duties required to support the efficient operation of the department.
  • Health & Safety Responsibilities
  • Follow company risk assessments, Safe Systems of Work and PPE requirements at all times.
  • Support accident, incident and near-miss investigations by providing statements or evidence where required.
  • Report accidents, incidents and near misses through the appropriate company reporting system.
  • Attend relevant Health & Safety meetings when required.
  • Promote a positive approach to Health & Safety and follow company procedures and policies.

Experience

Previous experience within a transport, haulage, logistics or similar operational environment would be desirable.

Experience within a busy administrative or customer service role would also be beneficial.
