From distinguished art exhibitions to fine dining, live music, and an exceptional programme of events for members, the club remains at the heart of contemporary cultural life in London. We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate Maintenance Manager to join the team and play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation, upkeep, and continuous improvement of our facilities across the Club and Hotel. This role is pivotal in leading the maintenance function and delivering high standards that reflect our commitment to excellence.
About the role: The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the maintenance team and overseeing all maintenance operations across the Club, Hotel suites, Brasserie, Lounge, Bars, Kitchen, Garden, Head Office, and staff areas. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the successful candidate will ensure the efficient running of all facilities while identifying opportunities for improvement, cost savings, and enhanced operational performance. This will be an On-Site role based at The Arts Club in Mayfair. Successful applicants will become part of a dynamic team who work closely with all departments to support the day-to-day operations of the Club.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance Operations
- Act as the lead for all maintenance activities, ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the Club and Hotel facilities.
- Liaise with the Director of Engineering to support the maintenance function and identify areas for improvement in general upkeep, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Monitor heating, lighting, and building systems to optimise efficiency and identify potential energy cost savings.
- Ensure all maintenance work is completed to a high standard and in a timely manner.
- Team Leadership
- Lead, manage, and delegate tasks to Senior Engineers and Shift Engineers, ensuring effective supervision and distribution of work across the team.
- Support the development and training of the maintenance team to ensure safe and efficient performance of duties.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and high performance within the department.
- Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including health & safety, fire prevention, and workplace regulations.
- Maintain and update departmental risk assessments in line with operational and legal changes.
- Conduct regular skills audits to ensure team compliance and capability in all required areas.
- Ensure all statutory and contractual obligations are met at all times.
- Maintenance & Repairs
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs across electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and structural systems.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and building integrity.
- Inspect, test, and maintain machinery, systems, and equipment to minimise downtime.
- Oversee installation, alignment, and repair of equipment and building components.
- Coordinate and monitor repairs to structural elements and specialist finishes, ensuring timely resolution.
- Contractor & Supplier Management
- Work closely with external contractors and suppliers to ensure quality and timely delivery of services.
- Build and maintain a preferred supplier list and manage supplier relationships effectively.
- Monitor maintenance contracts to ensure performance and value for money.
- Obtain competitive quotations for required works and manage associated costs.
- Budget & Resource Management
- Manage maintenance budgets effectively, ensuring cost control and value optimisation.
- Order and maintain stock of tools, parts, and supplies required for operations.
- Support profitability through effective resource management and cost-saving initiatives.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with department heads to coordinate maintenance activities, particularly during events and high-demand periods.
- Attend management meetings to provide updates on maintenance operations, challenges, and progress.
- Coordinate with Hotel and Housekeeping teams to minimise room downtime through effective repair scheduling.
About You
- Proven experience in a maintenance leadership role within a hospitality, hotel, or similar environment.
- Strong technical knowledge across electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and building systems.
- Experience managing teams and delegating work effectively.
- Good understanding of UK health & safety regulations and compliance requirements.
- Ability to diagnose issues and implement effective, timely solutions.
- Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proactive, hands-on approach with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external contractors.
