Meta Media Group is seeking an Assistant Editor to join the founding team of The Art Journal, a new digital-first publication covering the global art market. Reporting to the Editor and part of a growing team, the Assistant Editor will play a central role in the day-to-day running of the publication. This is a hands-on position spanning reporting, digital publishing, picture research, production and editorial operations, helping to find and develop stories before ensuring they move efficiently from raw copy to publication.
The role is ideal for someone with strong organisational skills and an interest in journalism, publishing, contemporary art and economics. Alongside supporting the publication's editorial and production workflows, the successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to audiovisual initiatives and editorial strategies as part of an expanding operation.
Responsibilities- Find and report breaking news stories.
- Conduct fact-checking and background research to support editorial output.
- Assist with copy preparation, aligning with house style.
- Contribute reporting and research for features and other editorial formats where required.
- Build, format and publish stories using the publication's content management system.
- Support newsletter production and digital publishing workflows.
- Assist in maintaining publishing schedules and day-to-day editorial production.
- Support commissioning and editorial planning processes.
- Source images for publication across news, features and social platforms.
- Write captions, verify image information and manage picture credits.
- Assist with copyright clearances and image licensing where required.
- Edit and optimise images for publication.
- Help ensure the smooth running of editorial workflows across the team.
- Assist with invoicing, filing and general administrative coordination.
- Maintain shared editorial resources and internal systems.
- Support special projects as required.
- Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Experience working in publishing, journalism, communications or a related field.
- Familiarity with digital publishing platforms and content management systems.
- Experience with picture research, image editing or visual production.
- Strong written communication skills and knowledge of social media.
- An interest in contemporary art and the art market.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively to deadlines.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute across a small, ambitious team.

- Contract: Full-time, permanent
