As a full-time soldier, entry-level Carpenter in the British Army, youll: Plan carpentry and joinery tasks from sketches and apply them in field Learn to use and maintain workshop machinery Prepare timber for use, manufacture joints, use adhesives, produce windows, door frames and fitments Carry out general construction work including first-fix timber frames and second-fix joinery fitments Construct scaffolding, interpret scaffold terms and erect access scaffold and install ladders Install partitions, floors, roofing, timber-framed buildings, formwork and shoring Study for carpentry qualifications (including Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Carpentry and Joining (Military Engineering) and L2 apprenticeship) To qualify, you must: Be between 16 years 6 months and 35 years 6 months Have a GCSE Grade A-C/9-5 or Scottish National 5 in Maths, English Language and one other subject Be able to pass a basic fitness test.

From the start of your training, youll earn £27,282 a year which will go up as you progress in your career.
From your first day of training, youll be gaining transferrable skills skills that could set you up for life.
You dont need to know how to do the job before you get here, because well give you all the training you need.
Step 1 is your initial military training teaching you how to be a soldier which will be basic military training if youre a Junior Soldier and adult basic training if youre a Regular Soldier.
Step 2 will be 12 weeks at the Royal School of Military Engineering where youll learn military engineering skills including demolition and bridge building.
Step 3 will be 21 weeks of carpentry training including using machinery and hand tools to make timber building materials.
Youll also receive 30 days annual leave every year (plus bank holidays and extra leave after operations), free medical and dental care, cheaper living costs, and free gym and sports facilities.
And unless you're away on operations or training exercises, you'll normally work 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Youll even get to travel the world, taking part in the Armys adventurous training, and spending dedicated time playing the sports you love.
