We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Team Leader to join our team in Colchester. As Team Leader, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the GEO Existing Business unit. You will provide technical underwriting support to a team of Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters, ensuring the delivery of efficient, compliant, and customer-focused underwriting services. A key part of the role is upholding Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles and driving positive customer outcomes.
What you will do as a Team Leader:
This is an overview and not an exhaustive list of responsibilities. Collaborating with your line manager, you will develop your own objectives but focus on all the following:
- Lead and manage all operational underwriting activities for your team.
- Monitor and deliver against agreed team and business area KPIs, supporting with production and interpretation of performance data.
- Support key month-end activities and reporting requirements.
- Ensure full oversight and implementation of conduct and compliance requirements through effective team processes and controls.
- Regularly review technical and behavioural performance of team members, providing proactive support and intervention where needed.
- Support the personal development and continuous improvement goals of direct reports in line with Group policy.
- Provide technical coaching and guidance, including support with referrals and sign-offs.
- Assist with complex new business enquiries and renewals as required.
- Conduct half-year and annual performance reviews in line with HR and Underwriting Governance policies.
- Communicate and implement business and technical updates, including Group Business Standards and regulatory developments.
- Facilitate regular team forums to encourage open communication and collaboration.
- Ensure high-quality underwriting activity and adherence to agreed SLAs.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Continuously review and improve team processes to ensure clarity, efficiency, and compliance.
- Motivate, coach, and develop team members to achieve their full potential.
What we are looking for in our next Team Leader:
- Experience of underwriting, within an MGA environment, with strong product knowledge and a good understanding of risk.
- Technical underwriting understanding of policy wordings, endorsements, and underwriting guides.
- Experience in people management, including motivation, coaching, development, and performance
- management is desirable.
- Experience in Property Owners insurance sector is preferable.
- A Chartered Insurance Institute qualification is desirable but not essential.
- IT Skills: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point. Experience of Acturis would also be advantageous
- Able to communicate clearly and confidently at all levels, both in writing and verbally, including delivering presentations.
