Fixed Term Contract - Hybrid in Brighton
We have an exciting opportunity for an Underwriting Assistant to join our Navigators & General team in Brighton. You will support our underwriting team focusing on commercial marine business, so we would be delighted to hear from you if you enjoy sailing and are passionate about the marine industry. If not, we’d still love to hear from you as all training will be provided.
You will assist our underwriting teams with processing renewals and assist with producing quotes including liaising with our brokers and customers. As part of your development, you will gain a strong knowledge of our products and learn underwriting and trading skills needed to help drive the business forwards.
What does an Underwriting Assistant do?
- Processing renewals and new business on our Policy Administration system.
- Review historical underwriting records and claims information and ensure this is captured to support underwriting decisions.
- Build relationships with our brokers and customers over the phone to support any queries they may have.
- Respond to customer and broker enquiries professionally and efficiently.
- Complete diarised tasks within set timeframes.
- Always maintain agreed service levels.
- Data entry and record keeping.
- Adhere to all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Operate within personal authority limits and delegated parameters.
- Achieve individual targets while contributing to team goals.
What are we looking for in our next Underwriting Assistant?
- Office-based administration experience is a must.
- Insurance industry experience would be an advantage.
- CII qualified or working towards would be an advantage.
- Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
- Competent with Microsoft Word & Excel.
- Dedicated to ensuring the best service to the customer.
- Excellent telephone manner.
- Works well under pressure.
