Volunteering Opportunity – Finance Support Officer for The Arden Theatre, Faversham

Reporting to the Committee Finance Lead, we are looking for a motivated individual who would like to build their work experience in a finance role. Ideal for someone studying AAT or who wants to expand on existing finance knowledge.

The Arden Theatre, originally founded in 1972, has grown to become a 98-seat theatre with a bar in the centre of Faversham. The core programme of six shows a year is delivered by a volunteer membership of actors, stage crew and front of house staff. The Arden also runs a popular youth theatre section, known as AYT, proudly delivered free of charge. The theatre also books external hires with various touring companies and local arts groups.

This is a voluntary, part-time role (approximately 8 hours per week) with flexible, primarily remote working. Attendance at the theatre is only required occasionally. The role covers many aspects of a finance function:

  • To provide high-quality comprehensive and efficient finance support to ensure the needs of the business are fully met.
  • Carry out transactional work including processing invoices, raising bank payments, journals, expenses and pulling together financial reports based on templates under the direction of the Finance Lead to ensure the integrity of the financial data on the finance system.
  • Administer local accounts, including appropriate level of checking and authorisation of payments in accordance with the Arden’s policy and financial regulations.
  • Support individuals in researching suppliers, placing orders, credit card payments, Amazon orders, producing reports and recommendations to the Finance Lead in respect of resource allocation, services and products, to ensure that best value for money is achieved.
  • Support the Finance Lead in the development and maintenance of the processes relating to the production of the Arden’s final accounts and ensure they comply with recognised accounting standards, and are published in accordance with statutory regulations, including a review of previous year processes and preparation.
  • Support the Finance Lead in the creation of regular and comprehensive financial reports for the Arden’s general committee, to include accurate summaries, surplus/loss statement for productions and any ad-hoc management reports, in response to requests.
