You’re doing the work of three people for the pay of one (barely)… but there’s an easier and all round better way to use your background without burning yourself out. If you’re an Architectural professional who loves the technical side but hates the hours, the pressure, the fee-chasing and the feeling that everything is always on fire, this move will feel like taking a heavy rucksack off.

You’ll still use the experience you’ve built, the building regs knowledge, the coordination, the design-team coordination, but in a role where the workload is lighter, the hours are sane, and the pay will reflect the value you bring. This is an intermediate role, but most experienced Architectural professionals won’t need to take a pay cut to do this job. You won’t be an intermediate for long in an industry that pays its seniors £55,000 - £65,000.

You’d never feel any pressure to work overtime or past your contracted hours if you worked here. This is a place where family comes first (not the work ‘family’, your actual family). If you do have a tough project; there’s been a bit more travel than they initially thought, or a complex job, or you’ve gone above and beyond you’ll be recognised, and you’ll always get your time given back.

You’ll work from home as often as you want. There are two days of the week where you’re encouraged to come in to hang out with the team, but not everybody does, there are no mandatory office days. It’s a low risk move. This is a consultancy with people who have been doing BR PD work for a while from the same background as you. Nobody in this industry is the “finished article” yet — which means progression is real, quick, and wide open.

More crucially the stress level drops. You’ll be part of a team that finishes at 5pm, not the one patching holes at 11pm.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Guiding design teams through Building Regulations compliance on mixed projects.
  • Supporting BR PD duties, Gateway submissions and regulatory processes.
  • Reviewing drawings, details and specifications for compliance.
  • Coordinating with architects, other consultants and clients — the same conversations you already have, but from a calmer place.
  • Keeping the golden thread intact, managing trackers and maintaining clear information flow.

What you’ll need:

  • Qualified Architectural professional (Architect or Technologist) with a strong technical leaning (rather than pure design).
  • Solid working knowledge of UK Building Regulations.
  • Any experience assisting the duty holder or dabbling in BR PD tasks puts you in excellent shape — many have this without realising.
  • Confidence talking to design teams and clients, or at least the people skills to get there.

About the company:

You’ll be joining a team of built environment specialists who take safety, sustainability, and commercial thinking seriously. It’s a business where good work is noticed, development is intentional, and people are trusted to grow. Alongside your salary, you’ll have a very large potential bonus, pension contributions, life cover, private medical insurance, and a culture that genuinely looks after its people as they progress.
