This is the kind of job where you’ll have a massive influence on decision making and decision makers in a way you just wouldn’t with your clients in a practice.
Every Architect wants to work client side these days, and I can see the attractions. But a word of caution.
The handful of developers that employ Architectural teams are often chaotic places, trying to do things cheap. It’s likely that you’d also feel a lot of frustration in that world.
Not in this job though. Your stakeholders aren’t trying to do anything cheap. And they’re thankful that you’re there because they don’t understand Architecture or Construction like you do.
It’s the kind of job where you’ll be exposed to so much more than you would in a practice or in one of those developer teams.
It’s project leadership and delivery with a team across all RIBA stages, but you’d also be face to face with senior decision making leadership who could spend tens of millions of pounds partly under your advice on an almost daily basis.
You’d be offered a significant bonus, largely tax free (around £4000). You get up to 28.5 days holiday and you can buy another 5 days. If you’re the sort of person who likes your holidays or time off, you could end up having nearly 7 weeks off plus bank holidays this year.
You can top up even further on your earnings, not just with the annual payrise, but every time you refer a mate to a job in the organisation you get ÂŁ1000.
There’s still promotions, and loads of progression to be had. Across a multitude of projects you’ll climb the ladder and increase your salary regularly.
Still sounds a bit different and stressful to you? It really won’t be when you land.
If you’re the sort of person that worries about your performance, your workload, what your boss thinks… there’s special support that you’re encouraged to use anonymously, there’s time off, there’s de-stressing, there’s therapists, nutritionists, doctors, and most importantly colleagues that are there to make you feel happy at work. It’s not the sort of environment where you’d need to worry.
You’d also benefit from WFH and flexitime, but never any overtime.

What you’ll be doing
You’d be doing a lot of advising and influencing in this job. But you’ll also be a project lead, on a range of large complex building types that touch upon different sectors.
There’s plenty of support back at HQ, you’ll have a team working for you, and you’ll spend plenty of time with them.
You’d be mostly working in the offices of a large public sector client. Seconded (very long term) by an AJ Top 10.
What you’ll need
You’ll need to be a qualified and experienced Architectural professional (the position is also open to Technologists).
You’ll also be used to being in a client facing position on large complex building types.
