If you’re a qualified Architect who loves the technical side but hates the hours, the pressure, the fee‑chasing and the feeling that everything is always on fire, this move will feel like taking a rucksack of bricks off your shoulders. You’ll still use the experience you’ve built — the regs knowledge, the coordination, the design‑team conversations — but in a role where the workload is lighter, the hours are sane, and the pay finally reflects the value you bring.

30 days holiday, a car allowance and only one day a week in the office will be a big jump. With a central office, you can realistically live in North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Greater Manchester or Lancashire and still have an easier week than you do now. A regular quarterly bonus of around £2000 in addition to an already incredible salary will pay for more holidays, better cars and the mortgage off quicker. It’s a low risk move. This is a consultancy with people who have been doing BR PD work for a while from the same background as you. It’s backed by building control professionals who make sure new joiners land softly. Nobody in this industry is the “finished article” yet — which means progression is real, quick, and wide open. More crucially the stress level drops. You’ll be part of a team that finishes at 5pm, not the one patching holes at 11pm.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Guiding design teams through Building Regulations compliance on mixed projects.
  • Supporting BR PD duties, Gateway submissions and regulatory processes.
  • Reviewing drawings, details and specifications for compliance.
  • Coordinating with architects, consultants and clients — the same conversations you already have, but from a calmer seat.
  • Keeping the golden thread intact, managing trackers and maintaining clear information flow.

What you’ll need:

  • Qualified Architect with a strong technical leaning (rather than pure design).
  • Solid working knowledge of UK Building Regulations.
  • Any experience assisting the duty holder or dabbling in BR PD tasks puts you in excellent shape — most Architects have this without realising.
  • Confidence talking to design teams and clients, or at least the people skills to get there.

About the company:

A well‑respected, large Building Control Consultancy with genuine BR PD expertise, structured progression and a reputation for supporting people properly. They understand that this is a new industry and invest heavily in training, mentoring and ongoing competence so you can grow quickly without pressure.

What you’ll get:

  • 30 days holiday + bank holidays.
  • 4 days WFH every week.
  • Clear progression (because nobody is “top tier” in this space yet).
  • A lighter, steadier, more predictable working life.
