At The Animal People Recruitment Company, we love partnering with businesses that genuinely care about their people, their customers, and the industries they operate within. We are exclusively supporting a hugely respected and long-established business within the pet industry as they continue to grow their Telephone Account Management team following ongoing success across their independent retail customer base.

This is not a hard-nosed, aggressive sales environment. This role is all about building relationships, understanding independent retailers, keeping customers engaged, introducing exciting products and brands, and becoming a trusted voice to the customers you support. The business has built an incredibly loyal customer base and a genuinely warm, down-to-earth culture internally. The team is described as bright, supportive, fun, and collaborative, with many long-serving employees who simply enjoy working together.

The Opportunity

You'll be managing a portfolio of independent pet retailers across the UK, speaking with customers regularly by phone and email to strengthen relationships, introduce promotions and new products, support growth within stores, and help bring customers back into regular purchasing patterns. Some conversations may result in small day-to-day orders. Others may lead to significant account growth over time. The key is consistency, relationship building, commercial awareness, and enjoying speaking with people.

This role would suit somebody who:

  • Loves relationship-led sales and account management
  • Enjoys speaking to customers and building rapport
  • Is naturally proactive and self-motivated
  • Can confidently pick up the phone and engage people
  • Enjoys managing their own workload and customer base
  • Likes working within a supportive but fast-paced environment
  • Wants to grow within a successful and expanding commercial team

You do not need to come directly from the pet industry. What matters most is attitude, communication skills, confidence, resilience, and the ability to build trust with customers over time.

The Role Will Include:

  • Managing and growing a portfolio of independent retail accounts
  • Re-engaging lapsed customers
  • Introducing promotions, key brands, and new products
  • Building long-term customer relationships
  • Understanding individual customer needs and recommending suitable products
  • Managing your own daily activity and customer contact plans
  • Working closely with wider sales and customer service teams
  • Supporting sales growth across key strategic brands

What We're Looking For:

  • Previous experience within telesales, account management, customer service sales, internal sales, or relationship-led commercial roles
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence speaking with customers over the phone
  • A self-driven and organised approach
  • Comfortable managing multiple customer relationships
  • Positive attitude and team-focused mentality
  • SAP experience would be advantageous but not essential

The Package:

  • Up to £28,000 DOE
  • Bonus scheme
  • Hybrid working (3 days office / 2 days home)
  • Flexible working hours
  • Bupa healthcare
  • Pension scheme
  • Staff discounts
  • Wellness initiatives
  • Excellent training and onboarding
  • Long-term progression opportunities
  • Dog-friendly culture

Why This Role Stands Out

This is the type of opportunity where culture genuinely matters. The business has built a close-knit, supportive environment where people are trusted to get on with their work, relationships matter, and success is recognised. It's an excellent opportunity for somebody who enjoys relationship management, thrives in a people-focused environment, and wants to join a business where they can genuinely build a long-term career.
