Shift Engineer

We are looking for a talented individual to join us in the capacity of Shift Engineer to be part of our dynamic and friendly Maintenance team at Vintry & Mercer Hotel located in The City (EC4V 2AU).

ABOUT THE ROLE

Your role as Shift Engineer will come with the following responsibilities:

• Address maintenance requests promptly and professionally in a timely manner, serving as the initial point of contact for maintenance-related issues.
• Read and action any issues from the night duty manager report.
• Monitor BMS system (active alarms, temperature, adjusting time schedules)
• Building checks internal (public area check list, lights, signs, all corridors, bathroom, carpets) & External (emergency staircase lights, grounds, walkways, car parks).
• Carry out Daily/Weekly/Monthly checks.
• Collaborate with Housekeeping or Duty Manager to relocate guests if a problem cannot be resolved within 2 hours or as per the situation.
• Swiftly handle work requests in the Housekeeping/Maintenance Logbook, either by taking necessary action or escalating to the Chief Engineer when appropriate.
• Prioritise and respond promptly to maintenance requests from all departments, with a focus on ensuring guest satisfaction.
• Maintain a cost-effective approach to all repair and maintenance work.
• Execute assigned preventive maintenance tasks according to the schedule.
• Monitor and operate all equipment and systems to ensure optimal and safe performance.
• Ensure the proper functioning of all life and safety systems, seeking approval from the Chief Engineer for any necessary isolations.
• Immediately report and address any hazardous operating conditions.
• Assist or supervise contractors during maintenance or repair work on equipment and facilities.
• Provide coverage at the sister hotel (The Ampersand Hotel) during periods of staff holiday or sickness, as required.
• Follow all directives from any level of Hotel Management to ensure smooth operations.

Functional Skills, Knowledge and Experience

• Previous experience as a Shift Engineer or Maintenance Assistant gained in a 4/5* environment is ideal
• Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
• Able to work within a team and on own initiative (A Self Starter)

To possess the ability to communicate with guests and colleagues in order to project a positive image of the hotel at all times. The ability to maintain hotel standards of work under pressure.
