The Choir Assistant Teacher is responsible for supporting the middle and high school choir program (Grades 5 - 12) and assisting the choir director in facilitating curriculum, rehearsals, and performances. They will serve as the primary director for a section of the grade 6 and 7 choirs.
Summary of duties:
- Lead and accompany frequent, large group instruction, culminating in numerous performances for the ASL parents and community.
- Co-plan and facilitate daily lessons for large group (50 students) classes.
- Exclusively plan, assess and carry out daily lessons for a section of the grade 6 and grade 7 choirs.
- Facilitate regular large-group instruction in the High School Concert Choir.
- Support from the piano as required.
- Assist with Honor Choir rehearsals and trips where needed.
- Any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the Performing Arts department heads.
Selection criteria:
Essential qualifications/experience:
- High level of musicianship and knowledge of best practices and pedagogy in the choral classroom, specifically with the developing/changing voice.
- Piano skills equivalent to ABRSM Grade 6.
- Demonstrably strong organisational abilities, along with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- A spirit of collaboration and enthusiasm for working in a team-focused environment.
- A proven commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of children.
Desirable qualifications/experience:
- A successful candidate will likely have a degree in Music or Music Education.
- Experience working in a school or other educational setting.
- Experience with collaborative piano skills, including fluent music sight-reading and confidence in accompanying various styles and genres of music.
