The Albex Group is a family of food ingredient manufacturing and distribution companies structured into three divisions:

  • ‘Commodities’ services larger volume users and is home to Jones Kent, Kent Foods, Kent Foods BV and Kent Foods Nordics
  • ‘Specialities’ focuses on specific product or user types and is home to Fiddes Payne, HB Ingredients, Rainbow Dust and Tom Walker
  • ‘Group Services’ provides shared services to our operating companies. These services comprise Finance, Food Safety, Health & Safety, HR, IT, Transport and Warehousing

Collectively we operate from 11 sites in the UK and Europe, serve 16,000 customers a year with 4,500 products, employ 400+ people and have an annual turnover of around £400m.

The Albex Group is seeking a Group Financial Director. This individual will lead a centralised team of 20 people providing financial services for all group companies. In this role they will:

  • Develop a high-performing and highly motivated team
  • Optimise financial process, streamlining them through technology and automation
  • Provide stakeholders with insightful financial reporting, analysis and advice
  • Ensure compliance with legal and statutory requirements
  • Identify financial risks across the group and mitigate these
  • Develop an internal audit process and manage external audit
  • Lead the financial aspects of acquisitions by the group

The role is based in Lewes and will require regular visits to different sites and stakeholders primarily within the UK.

You’ll be an experienced Chartered Accountant and it’s likely that you’ll display the following characteristics:

  • Be based in the UK
  • Have had at least one Finance Director/CFO or equally senior role
  • Have experience with distribution and manufacturing companies
  • Have a degree and are a Chartered Accountant
  • A strategic thinker with a methodical yet pragmatic approach
  • Commercially astute and understands the wider business context
  • Strong communication, stakeholder and change management skills
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
  • An advocate of technology and continuous improvement
  • Energetic, tenacious and focussed on outcomes

It’s also likely that you’ll have experience in the following:

  • Group and subsidiary accounting
  • Accounting for manufacturing and distribution companies
  • International accounting
  • Operating within a Shared Services environment
  • Technology implementation (ideally Microsoft Dynamics)
