A rare opportunity is available to join the National Children's Air Ambulance (NCAA) on an honorary contract, as we continue to grow and develop our lifesaving service. We are seeking an experienced and passionate senior clinician to provide independent governance oversight and advisory support to the NCAA and our Clinical Partner Teams (CPTs). This is a unique opportunity for a senior clinician with expertise in paediatric or neonatal critical care, with a passion for governance to support the safe and effective delivery of specialist aeromedical transfers for critically ill babies and children across the UK.
Working closely with NHS Clinical Partner Teams (CPTs) and the NCAA leadership team, the Governance Lead will help ensure the highest standards of safety, governance, and service development across the operation. This advisory position plays a vital role in maintaining strong partnerships and supporting the ongoing development of our national service.
Main duties of the job
The Governance Lead is an advisory role to The Air Ambulance Service with regards to the medical safety, governance, developments and excellence of the NCAA.
About us
The National Children's Air Ambulance is a dedicated transfer service. Working in partnership with our Clinical Partner Teams, we fly critically ill babies and children between hospitals across the UK. With specialist clinical teams on board, we ensure young patients receive the expert care they need, fast, when every second counts. The contract will be an honorary contract, paid on an hourly basis to the individual's NHS employer. This is a remote position, working 4 hours a month on average. Job responsibilities
- Advise and support the NCAA Leadership Team in joint working with NHS Clinical Partner Teams (CPTs) for PICU and NICU aeromedical retrievals.
- Be a source of independent advice and support to NHS CPTs and NCAA Leadership Team.
- Ensure smooth interface regarding clinical safety, education and training with the NHS CPTs.
- Be responsible for chairing, setting agendas, and assisting supportive documents, eg SOPs, relating to the clinical governance of NCAA.
- To Chair the following meetings: Monthly NCAA Governance Meeting, NCAA Annual Review.
- To attend quarterly TAAS Clinical Governance Committee meetings.
- Available to each of the CPTs and be responsible for facilitating good relationship between the CPTs in relation to any issues affecting clinical/operational governance.
- To support raising awareness of NCAA.
- Assist with writing and reviewing of SOPs.
- Provide advice and guidance on service developments.
- Provide support and advice, being a point of escalation when required for incidents.
- Working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Associate Director of Operations and Head of Operations NCAA to deliver the clinical quality and safety standards of the operation.
Relationships
Internal: Working primarily with the Chief Operating Officer, Medical Director TAAS, Associate Director of Operations TAAS, Head of Operations NCAA, Operations Manager NCAA, Education & Development Lead NCAA, Operations Team Leader NCAA and Airdesk Team Leader NCAA.
External: Engaging with CPTs and National Transport Groups.
Person Specification
Experience
- Currently working for an NHS organisation.
- Experience of paediatric and/or neonatal critical care.
- Experience of clinical governance and safety.
- Experience of service developments/improvements.
- Highly effective organisational and communication skills.
- Effective time management.
- Demonstrable evidence of behaviour in line with the core values of TAAS throughout career to date.
- Collaborative approach to achieving departmental and wider organisational objectives.
- Passion for the work that TAAS does.
- A flexible approach to allow adaptability to the changing needs of the organisation.
- Team and project management experience in aeromedical, medical aviation, pre-hospital care.
- Experience in education & training of clinical staff.
Qualifications
- Qualified Medical Practitioner.
