Main duties of the job:

  • To be responsive to tasking requests from the Airdesk including responsive mobilisation.
  • Ensure equipment is checked and readily available for tasking.
  • Engage and work cohesively with CPTs and NCAA Pilots (Pre, During and Post tasking).
  • Support the safe loading/unloading of patients with CPTs and pilots.
  • Ensure patients and equipment are secured safely, checking prior to take off and landing.
  • Support CPTs throughout tasking (e.g. fitting helmets, harnesses, etc.).
  • Work cohesively with NCAA pilots to ensure the aircraft, cabin and equipment is always available and ready for tasking.
  • Provide support and reassurance to patients and parents/guardians.

Experience:

  • Experience of working within healthcare (5+ years).
  • Experience of working within a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Good communication skills, able to communicate appropriately and effectively in person, over the phone, virtually, by radio and in writing.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with colleagues, NHS teams and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and how it can be maintained.
  • Good physical fitness to facilitate lifting, bending and carrying in the process of transporting patients.
  • Comfortable in a helicopter (wind and motion sickness not an issue).
  • Ability to work shift patterns, including long days, weekends, bank holidays and incidental overtime.
  • Ability to work effectively under direction and as part of a team.
  • Empathy with people dealing with sensitive situations, assertive and tactful.
  • Resilience under pressure and ability to recognise when support is needed for self or others.
  • Experience in emergency care, retrieval services or intensive/critical care transfers.
  • Experience in aeromedical retrievals/transfers.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified as Emergency Ambulance Crew, Emergency Care Assistant, or equivalent/higher.
  • Full UK manual driving licence.
  • Education to GCSE level or equivalent in Maths and English (Grade C or above).
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
