Join Our Lifesaving Volunteers as a Volunteer PAT Tester.

Location: Rugby, Warwickshire

Hours: Flexible

Our Volunteer PAT Testers play an important role in supporting The Air Ambulance Service by helping to ensure electrical items donated to our charity shops are safe, compliant and ready for resale. By carrying out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) on donated electrical goods, you’ll help us maximise the value of donations and support the vital income that keeps our lifesaving helicopters flying and critical care teams responding when every second counts.

Whether you’re an experienced PAT Tester or have relevant electrical knowledge and are willing to learn, your skills will make a real difference to the communities we serve.

As part of our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, our people are encouraged to get involved in our internal EDI networks, which provide opportunities to connect, share experiences and help to shape a more inclusive workplace.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) on donated electrical items in line with current safety standards and charity procedures.
  • Complete visual inspections of electrical appliances before testing.
  • Identify items that are safe for resale and those that should be removed from sale.
  • Label tested items accurately and maintain clear testing records.
  • Report any faults or safety concerns to the Retail Team.
  • Help maintain a safe and organised working environment.
  • Follow all health and safety guidance and safe working practices.
  • Represent The Air Ambulance Service positively while supporting our retail operations.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience of Portable Appliance Testing (PAT), or relevant electrical knowledge and a willingness to undertake training.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to follow testing procedures accurately.
  • A methodical and organised approach to your work.
  • A commitment to health and safety.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • A positive, reliable and flexible attitude.
  • A passion for supporting The Air Ambulance Service and our lifesaving work.

What’s In It For You:

At TAAS, you’ll be part of a passionate and committed charity that’s making a real difference every day. We value professionalism, compassion and teamwork — and we’re proud of our inclusive, supportive culture. Whether it’s supporting emergency services from behind the scenes or helping shape the future of our leadership, you’ll play a crucial role in helping us save lives.

Compliance Responsibilities: In addition to specific compliance requirements within your role, you also hold responsibility in your specialism for:

  • Health & Safety and Environment
  • Safeguarding
  • Data Protection
  • Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
  • Quality

You are expected and encouraged to raise and elevate appropriately any potential breaches or areas for improvement regarding the above. The role is subject to a Basic DBS check.

Environment: TAAS is an inclusive working environment where Equity, Diversity and Human Rights are guiding principles, individuals are respected and a value of having a diverse workforce is recognised. The recruitment, employment and development of people are based on qualifications, experience and competency to do the job, eliminating personal bias or prejudice.

As an organisation, TAAS is committed to ensuring the safety and welfare of children and vulnerable adults involved in any of our activities. Our commitment applies to all acting on our behalf, i.e., employees, contractors, volunteers, supporters, patients, donors and visitors, meaning that all have a responsibility towards safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults with whom they have contact with.

Any new staff starting with the organisation will need to be committed to Safeguarding, complete relevant Safeguarding training and report any concerns they may have. TAAS operates a safer recruitment process, as part of our Safeguarding policy, which includes identifying and rejecting anyone who may be a risk to vulnerable people.
