The Advocacy Academy is an activist youth movement that serves as the political home for grassroots youth organising and the catalyst for collective action. We exist to turn the anger of young people, who have lived in an unjust world, into effective political power and national policy influence. We have launched two national coalitions—climate and gender—to train organisations across the country to become youth organisers, empowering 100 young people to develop strategy and tactics that drive real, lasting change.

We are looking for a Senior Lead Climate Coalition who believes in this vision and is capable of building the leadership in youth workers and young people alike that enables them to turn the resources they have into the power they need to make the change they want.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Lead and coordinate the Climate Coalition – Roots to Rise.
  • Set strategic direction and priorities for the programme, working with the Director of Programmes, Partnerships, and Associate Director of Partnerships.
  • Build and nurture relationships with coalition partners: hold regular 1‑to‑1s, support partners to identify political interests, and ensure partnership milestones are met.
  • Lead the Youth Steering Group, providing strategic oversight, facilitation, agenda setting, and ensuring meaningful youth voice and diversity.
  • Oversee the Summer Camp (15–19 Aug 2026), coordinating logistics, partner delivery, and capturing learning for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain behind‑the‑scenes systems, processes and resources, including safeguarding, risk management, health and safety, and monitoring & evaluation frameworks.
  • Manage the programme budget within financial targets, working closely with programme leadership to identify efficiencies and flag risks.
  • Support wider partnership work.
  • Assist the Associate Director of Partnerships in delivering overall strategy.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Lead for the Gender Coalition to identify collaboration opportunities.
  • Work with Programme, Organising, Campaigns and Community teams to develop training on organising and campaigning.
  • Deliver ad‑hoc workshops and meetings, designing creative learning journeys for young people.

Contribute to the Programme Team

  • Support strategic direction and priorities for the Programme Team each financial year.
  • Assist in the management of organisational risks, escalating issues promptly.
  • Support wider organisational programmes such as Ignite and other initiatives, ensuring alignment with team priorities.

Drive organisational culture and governance

  • Uphold the Academy’s vision, mission, strategy and values across the organisation.
  • Model social and economic justice and lead by example in cross‑departmental projects.
  • Identify and present opportunities to strengthen organisational impact.
  • Manage risks to integrity and authenticity, taking timely action.
  • Facilitate collaboration across departments and support wellbeing initiatives.
  • Own ongoing personal development, seeking leadership and expertise growth.

Governance and compliance

  • Prioritise risk management with Finance, HR and Operations teams.
  • Ensure appropriate systems and practices are in place and consistently applied.
  • Champion understanding and compliance with Academy policies and practices.

A bit about you

  • Passionate and committed to creating a fair, just and equal world.
  • Believe in the potential of young people to challenge the status quo and help them become powerful citizens.
  • Have a deep understanding of social justice issues and a personal relationship with them, from racism to climate justice.
  • Comfortable managing competing priorities and balancing deadlines.
  • Sensitive and thoughtful relationship‑builder, a keen listener who retains people’s names, faces and stories.
  • Confident written and verbal communicator who tailors messages for diverse audiences.
  • Proactive, organised and eager to learn, engaging with funders, researching opportunities and collaborating with teammates.

Ideal Skills & Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in programme delivery on social justice topics with young people.
  • At least 5 years of experience supporting people to develop and implement organising or campaigning.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills and collaborative experience across teams.
  • Excellent organisational skills, managing multiple tasks and priorities.
