Job summary

Vaccination Nurse (12-month fixed-term contract, part time up to 20 hours per week, flexible). The Adam Practice seeks an experienced Registered Nurse with a passion for adult vaccination programmes and a commitment to improving public health and patient-centred care.

Job responsibilities

As a dedicated Vaccination Nurse you will:

• Deliver safe, effective and high quality vaccination services primarily to adult patients, supporting national immunisation programmes and improving vaccination uptake across the practice population.


• Administer vaccinations in accordance with national guidance, clinical protocols and local policies.


• Promote the benefits of immunisation and support patients to make informed health decisions.


• Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, maintaining a professional, caring and courteous approach.


• Innovate and support ongoing development and improvement of the vaccination service, ensuring it remains responsive, accessible and patient focused.


• Administer national childhood and adult immunisation programmes, ensuring vaccines and injections are administered under patient group directives or individual prescriptions.


• Provide routine and urgent nursing care in line with clinical evidence, NICE guidelines, and practice protocols.


• Assess and manage wounds, including minor traumatic wounds, lower limb care, post‑op wound care, and perform venepuncture, swabs, and urine culture in line with local guidelines.


• Provide holistic assessment and advice for travel health, contraception, sexual health guidance and annual contraceptive reviews.


• Delegate clinical responsibilities appropriately to non‑registered colleagues, ensuring tasks are within scope of practice and maintain safe practice.


• Maintain infection control measures, recognise and manage anaphylaxis, perform CPR and use Automated Defibrillator per UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.


• Manage vaccine and medication storage, rotation, disposal, support monthly stock take and maintain adequate stock in treatment rooms.


• Support quality and improvement initiatives, QOF requirements, and act in accordance with NMC Code of Conduct and Scope of Practice.


• Maintain accurate notes and attend relevant practice meetings and mandatory training.

Ability & Knowledge – Essential

• Knowledge of the wider spectrum of clinical care delivered in General Practice Nurse clinics.


• Excellent communication and people skills.


• Ability to work under pressure.


• Team player who facilitates decision making and builds trust within a multidisciplinary team.

Ability & Knowledge – Desirable

• Core skills of wound care, ECG, venepuncture.


• Interest in an area of chronic disease.


• Trained in cytology.


• Lower limb care competencies, including Dopplers.


• Awareness of national child and adult immunisation programmes.

Empathy & Sensitivity – Essential

• Holistic approach to clinical care with patient at the centre of any decision.

• Current registration with the NMC.
