De-risking executive search for the financial services industry. The client has a heritage in helping people secure their financial futures and is growing its bulk annuity business, partnering with pension schemes to protect members’ retirement benefits. This is a period of exponential growth and a chance to join a trusted business where your work will make a real difference and accelerate your career. This position reports to the Chief Actuary and will play an integral role in supporting the rest of the C-Suite. You will lead the Financial Planning, Capital and ALM team, delivering accurate, timely and insightful financial analysis to support the company’s strategy and business planning.
Key responsibilities
- Support the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Actuary, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Risk Officer in financial decision-making.
- Lead the production of the ORSA and business plan process.
- Lead on the delivery of the standard formula appropriateness evaluation.
- Lead on the management of the matching adjustment portfolios.
- Lead on asset liability management, supporting the Chief Investment Officer.
- Peer review of work produced by other actuarial managers.
- Contribute to the effective leadership of the actuarial department.
- Ensure that processes and output from the actuarial department have been produced in accordance with internal policies and control frameworks, as well as relevant actuarial standards.
- Identify opportunities for improving capital efficiency.
- Maintain a portfolio of management actions that could be taken if required.
- Maintain competence and fitness and propriety standards to the level required by the company’s regulators.
- Ad hoc tasks as required.
- Comply with the FCA’s conduct (and senior conduct) and Consumer Duty rules and the PRA’s conduct (and senior manager conduct) standards.
Core competencies
- Strong understanding of Solvency UK and capital management and ALM techniques.
- Ability to develop effective solutions to issues/problems.
- Good communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to build relationships.
- Good risk management analysis skills/understanding of risk.
- Proactive, can-do attitude and ability to motivate a team of direct reports and across departments.
- Well-organised, good attention to detail, able to prioritise effectively, work independently and meet tight deadlines.
Experience and qualifications
- Qualified Actuary, with minimum of 5 years’ experience in FP&A or related actuarial roles, with a strong focus on the business planning process.
- Financial Services (Life industry or Pensions Fund) experience.
- Experience of the regulatory environment in the UK.
