Job Description

Chief Financial Officer [CFO]

South Yorkshire

£130,000 – £150,000 extensive package including bons and significant equity (anticipated value seven figures)

Game changer for the right person… the type of opportunity that doesn’t land on your desk day in day out. The type of journey (and equity package) that likely changes the life of the successful candidate. You are joining a private equity backed SME amid a phase of rapid buy and build scale up.

You’ll be CFO – reporting to the MD (with strong lines into the PE investors) as part of a lean, highly capable, ambitious and driven senior leadership team.

This isn’t for an FD who enjoys managing the status quo each day / month. You need to love change and fast paced accelerated growth underpinned by quick fire M&A. You need to be someone who can not only navigate change but also create success and generate positive momentum.

This is for someone with top 1% capability and top 1% ambition. And you will be rewarded in 4 -5 years time (or sooner) with an equity sale which is considered life changing for most people (£1m+).

You will have qualified in a top tier firm (most likely ACA) and have cut your teeth in the advisory / corporate finance arena (probably top 4). You’ve already had a taste of industry and will be operating at FD / CFO level in a growth business.

This will be the gig that allows you to be at the top table at both the beginning and end of the growth cycle (and successful sale / exit). You’ll have all of the associated exciting challenges that come with a 4-5 year ‘grow to sale’ PE journey – and you’ll have the reward of sweet equity expected to be valued at seven figures at point of exit.

Game changing.

It will be a superb experience – chance to genuinely influence direction and pace of travel within a modern and agile SME. The business was expanding swiftly and PE backing has allowed the brakes to be taken off and the next phase will see the business transition from £20m to £50m turnover.

There is a strong team in place. Your role is to be part of the strategic and tactical decision making. You’ll bring a highly insightful board pack to the party with a suite of relevant MI and commercial insights / KPIs.

You’ll be bringing clear visibility around risk, opportunity, strength and areas for development across the group. You’ll play a vital role in the ongoing M&A and successful integration of newly acquired businesses.

You’ll be providing a bridge between the PE partners and the business and a firm connection between the senior leadership team and the important numbers.

This will be such an interesting journey and incredible experience. A chance to add tons of value whilst, being blunt, creating personal wealth.

Required:

  • Experience of leading a finance team at FD / CFO level and navigating significant change (likely rapid growth and perhaps a successful sale / transformation).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to coach others.
  • Confidence when working in a senior leadership team / presenting and influencing at board level.
  • Someone who demands excellence from themselves and others around them – an intelligent, sharp and commercially astute FD / CFO.
  • Someone with the credibility to be able to take a £20m PE backed business on a journey to £50m+ then sale over the next 3-5 years.
  • ACA or equivalent.
  • A firm technical and commercial accounting background likely gained in top tier practice.

This is a superb opportunity for someone with an outstanding career track record to be involved in a full PE cycle – growth to exit. Sweet equity from the get go anticipated value seven figures.
