This is a critical Executive Team role responsible for shaping and delivering a clear and compelling membership and commercial strategy that drives engagement, long-term relevance, and sustainable revenue growth. You will lead a multi-disciplinary directorate spanning membership, events, training, and commercial partnerships, ensuring the ABI remains central to its members and responsive to a rapidly evolving industry.
You’ll own the end-to-end member value proposition—using insight, data, and strong stakeholder relationships to continuously evolve our offer, including where we need to adapt our membership and commercial model to remain relevant and sustainable. This is a high-impact role combining strategic thinking with delivery. You will influence organisational direction, build trusted relationships at the most senior level across the sector, and ensure our commercial activities deliver real value to members while supporting the ABI’s long-term sustainability.
What skills do you need?
- You will be a proven senior leader with a strong track record of delivering membership growth and commercial success, ideally within a membership body, professional services environment, or similarly complex organisation.
- Strategic leadership experience, with the ability to shape and deliver organisation-wide membership and commercial strategies.
- Strong commercial acumen, including ownership of revenue targets and a track record of developing new products, partnerships and income streams.
- Expertise in membership models, including engagement, retention, value proposition development and designing effective fee and pricing frameworks.
- Experience of developing and evolving events and/or training portfolios as both member value drivers and commercial products.
- A data-driven mindset, using CRM systems, market insight, and customer data to inform decision-making.
- Outstanding stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at CEO and Board level.
- A collaborative and inclusive leadership style, with experience of building high-performing teams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
- An understanding of the UK insurance, pensions, or long-term savings sector is advantageous but not essential.
