Abbey Community Centre is a thriving local charity supporting people in Kilburn and surrounding areas to lead healthier, happier and more connected lives. We are looking for reliable, practical and friendly people to join our team of Community Centre Caretakers. This is a flexible role that would suit someone who enjoys working independently, meeting people and helping keep a busy community centre safe, welcoming and running smoothly. As a Community Centre Caretaker, you will often be the only staff member on site during evenings and weekends. You will help ensure that visitors, community groups and room hirers have a positive experience while maintaining the safety, security and day-to-day operation of the building.
Responsibilities
- Act as keyholder for the building, taking responsibility for opening and closing the building safely
- Welcome visitors, hirers and centre users
- Help room hirers get settled and answer basic enquiries
- Set up and clear rooms for activities, meetings and events
- Carry out cleaning, tidying and light caretaking duties
- Monitor health, safety and fire procedures within the building
- Carry out simple maintenance tasks and minor repairs
- Identify, fix and report hazards or maintenance issues
- Respond appropriately to incidents and emergencies
- Act as a first aider if required (training provided)
- Work independently while maintaining communication with centre staff
- Act as a positive ambassador for Abbey Community Centre
Qualifications and Personal Attributes
- Reliable, punctual and trustworthy
- Confident working independently and following lone-working procedures
- Good customer service and communication skills
- Friendly, approachable and professional
- Can follow instructions and procedures carefully
- Uses initiative and can solve practical problems
- Comfortable taking responsibility for the building while on duty
- Physically able to move furniture and carry out practical tasks
- Available to work weekend and/or weekday evening shifts
- Previous experience in caretaking, facilities, maintenance, cleaning, hospitality, customer service or similar roles would be helpful, but is not essential. Full induction and training will be provided.
Compensation & Benefits

- Most shifts will be available during the following times:
- Saturdays and Sundays: 9.00am - 9.00pm
