The Trust wishes to appoint Care Assistants to join the large support team at Abbey Hill Academy. The role involves working with students with profound and multiple learning difficulties and complex additional needs under the guidance of classroom teachers and learning support staff within an agreed system of supervision. The successful applicant will work with individual students in and out of the classroom giving personal and practical assistance, ensuring a caring and safe environment.
Responsibilities
- Support students with personal care and hygiene, including:
- Personal hygiene
- Toileting and changing
- Dressing
- Assist in the delivery of feeding programs.
- Provide practical assistance for other identified physical needs, such as:
- Transporting to and from classrooms
- Moving students in and out of wheelchairs, standing frames etc. using appropriate equipment
- Using hoists and moving equipment when necessary
- Provide personal assistance to students in physical/practical activities such as P.E., rebound, cookery, lunchtime activities and school outings.
- Ensure all items involved in the personal care of students are appropriately cleaned and stored.
- Support and supervise students during the break and lunchtime periods.
- Work with the teacher to establish an appropriate learning environment.
- Support students with sensory learning activities/programs as directed by the classroom teacher.
Qualifications
Experience of supporting children or adults within a care or school setting and experience of working with children or adults who have special educational needs and/or physical disabilities is essential. Some flexibility around start and finish times may be required to fit around the school day.
Salary
Grade D - Actual salary £17,187 (FTE £25,184). Pay award pending.
