Finished college and ready to turn your automotive skills into a career? You’ve put the work in to get your automotive qualification. Now it’s time to put those skills into practice.

At The AA, we’re looking for the next generation of automotive talent to join our Trainee Mobile Mechanic Programme. This isn’t a role where we expect you to arrive knowing everything. It’s a structured development programme designed for people at the start of their automotive career. We’ll give you the training, support and hands‑on experience you need to develop your career as an AA Mobile Mechanic.

What’s in it for you?

  • £28,000 starting salary, with pay increases as you develop your skills and successfully complete programme milestones
  • A structured development programme, typically taking around 6 to 12 months
  • Hands‑on technical training and real‑world experience
  • Support from experienced AA colleagues and dedicated mentors
  • Training in everything from technical skills and safe working to customer communication and working independently
  • A clear development pathway, building your technical capability and preparing you for a long‑term career as an AA Mobile Mechanic with opportunities to continue developing into other roadside and specialist technical roles

What will I be doing?

From day one, you’ll be learning from experienced people who know the job inside out. You’ll start with onboarding, technical training, mentoring and shadowing before gradually taking on more responsibility as your skills and confidence grow. You’ll gain practical experience working on customers’ vehicles, developing your skills in areas such as servicing, inspections and fault finding. Depending on your location and development pathway, you may also build roadside assistance skills as you progress through the programme. As you become more confident and demonstrate your competence, you’ll progress through the programme and start working more independently.

What are we looking for?

  • You don’t need years of experience in a garage. In fact, previous full-time automotive experience isn’t essential. We’re much more interested in your potential, attitude and enthusiasm.
  • A Level 2 or Level 3 automotive qualification
  • A full UK driving licence
  • A genuine interest in cars and the automotive industry
  • A practical, hands‑on approach and willingness to learn
