At The AA, content plays a critical role in how millions of people understand, choose and use our products and services.

We are looking for a Lead Content Designer to shape the vision, standards and strategic direction for content design across high profile digital journeys, ensuring our experiences are clear, inclusive, accessible, compliant and genuinely useful for customers.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone who can bring structure, clarity and momentum to a growing content design function.

You will lead and develop a team, embed best practice across squads, influence senior stakeholders and help shape how content supports customer experience, commercial performance and business priorities.

You will be joining on a 12-month fixed term contract at a pivotal time, with the opportunity to make a visible impact quickly.

We are looking for someone who combines deep content design expertise with strong leadership judgement, stakeholder confidence and a passion for building capability that lasts beyond the contract term.

What will I be doing?

  • Set the vision, standards, governance and frameworks for content design across large scale digital journeys.
  • Lead, coach and develop the content design team, building capability, confidence and clear progression pathways.
  • Champion accessible, inclusive, user‑centred and compliant content, including FCA aligned best practice where relevant.
  • Partner with Product, Design, CRO, Legal, Compliance and senior business stakeholders to align content strategy with customer and business outcomes.
  • Use research, behavioural data, performance insight and customer evidence to shape content decisions and improve journey performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement in content design practice, including the responsible use of emerging tools and AI where they can improve quality, consistency and efficiency.

What do I need?

  • Senior level content design, UX writing or content strategy expertise, gained across complex digital journeys and customer focused environments.
  • Experience in acquisition led, commercial, regulated or customer service‑based organisations would be beneficial, particularly where content has had a clear impact on conversion, digital self‑service, customer understanding or service outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of UX, accessibility, inclusive design, plain English and regulatory compliance, with the ability to embed best practice across teams.
  • A proven track record of leading content design strategy at organisational level, not just delivering individual content changes.
  • Experience building, coaching and developing content design teams, including capability frameworks, standards and ways of working.
  • The ability to influence senior stakeholders, challenge constructively and secure alignment across product, customer experience and business priorities.
  • Confidence using research, data and performance insight to demonstrate measurable impact for customers and the organisation.
