Salary: Guaranteed minimum c. £38,591 for CE (HGV 1) licence, £35,111 for C (HGV 2) licence. This includes a location allowance. On Target Earnings: £44,720 for CE, £39,065 for C licence.

Shifts: Rolling roster, work 18 days out of every 28, with two full weekends off. Standard Shift Duration: 9 hours and 45 minutes, including a 45‑minute break. Flexibility Required: While standard shifts are under 10 hours, end‑of‑shift flexibility is essential. You may be required to work up to 12 hours (including breaks) depending on operational needs.

Depot Postcode: PE28 4JL. To be eligible for this role you must live within 25 miles or 1 hour travel from the depot.

About the Role: As an HGV Recovery Driver, you’ll often work independently, but the moment you step out of your truck, you become a source of calm and confidence. With empathy and resilience, you’ll support members through stressful moments, using your technical expertise to recover vehicles safely and efficiently. Whether it’s transporting a vehicle to a garage or helping someone reach their destination, you’ll make a real difference in their day and their journey.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivering exceptional service by safely recovering vehicles and reassuring customers during breakdowns, helping them get back on the road quickly.
  • Working independently across varied locations and conditions, while remaining a valued part of a supportive team.
  • Solving problems on the spot, using your technical skills and calm approach to handle a wide range of roadside situations.
  • Staying solution‑focused and compliant with EU Regulations & WTD, representing The AA with professionalism and a drive to always “Push for Better.”

Qualifications:

  • A full Category C (HGV Class 2) driving licence is essential. If you already hold a Category CE (HGV Class 1) licence — great! If not, don’t worry — we’ll support you in gaining it.
  • A valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) and a digital tachograph card.
  • Confidence using and adapting to new technology — we’ll provide the tools; you bring the curiosity.
  • Flexibility to work shift patterns, including evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays because breakdowns don’t stick to a schedule.
