An established education refurbishment and maintenance organisation is seeking an experienced Clerk of Works on a contract basis to oversee a programme of planned maintenance and refurbishment projects across multiple educational sites in the Bristol area during the summer holiday period. This is an excellent opportunity for an independent construction professional looking for a flexible, part-time assignment, ensuring works are delivered safely, to specification, and in accordance with agreed quality standards.
The Role: Working closely with project managers, contractors, and site leadership teams, you will provide on-site quality assurance and monitoring across 2β3 education facilities undergoing maintenance and refurbishment works.
- Monitoring construction and refurbishment activities on behalf of the client
- Inspecting workmanship, materials, and compliance with specifications
- Identifying defects, quality issues, and non-compliant works
- Producing site inspection reports and progress updates
- Ensuring contractors adhere to health and safety requirements
- Attending site meetings and supporting project delivery teams
- Verifying works are completed to the required standard before handover
The Ideal Candidate:
- Previous experience as a Clerk of Works, Building Surveyor, Site Inspector, Site Manager, or Construction Quality professional
- Strong knowledge of refurbishment, maintenance, and building fabric projects
- Experience within education, public sector, healthcare, local authority, or similar occupied environments would be advantageous
- Excellent attention to detail and reporting skills
- Ability to work independently across multiple sites
- Full UK driving licence and access to transport
