Tree Safety and Conservation Manager 37 hours per week Thanet District Council’s Open Spaces Team is looking for an experienced tree and conservation management professional to lead the implementation of Thanet’s biodiversity improvements. We have already started with the planting of the first of six mini-woodlands across Thanet in the next two years but there is much more to do. The role is based at the Open Spaces Depot in Margate (set hours of operation 7.30am to 3.30pm) and includes the line management of the Tree Team and Tree & Biodiversity Coordinator. Your experience of managing teams will ensure we maximise the outputs from the team to keep open spaces safe whilst conserving tree stock and biodiversity wherever possible, including leading on the Council’s two trees planted for every tree felled policy. This is a great opportunity for a forward thinking professional who can manage both day to day operations and work strategically, developing strategies and plans to increase tree cover as well as increasing biodiversity across Thanet. Thanet is a great place to live and work… Our historic seaside towns of Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs and surrounding villages are rich in heritage and opportunity. With 19 miles of stunning coastline, our beautiful Blue Flag beaches, the internationally renowned Turner Contemporary, and the UK’s only Royal Harbour are all just a short train ride from central London thanks to the high-speed rail link. Our proximity to the port of Dover and the Eurotunnel at Folkestone mean Europe is literally on our doorstep too. All of this, combined with a flexible approach to how we work makes it an exciting time to join Thanet District Council. We have set our sights high. We want our residents to enjoy the highest quality services. We want to ensure that by listening to local people, working in active partnership and doing things in an innovative way, we can accelerate improvement to meet the challenges ahead. For an informal discussion about this role and to apply, please contact Daniel Gooch, Open Spaces Manager, by email via the button below. Interviews will be held on the Wednesday 15 January 2025.
