An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Housing Options Team. We are looking for a permanent member of staff to join our proactive Homeless Prevention service. With the introduction of the Renters Rights Act 2025 on 1 May 2026, you will be involved in providing accurate advice to applicants and landlords regarding this.
As an innovative, motivated, excellent communicator, you will also assist households who have been accepted by the authority as at risk of homelessness or homeless to resolve their housing situation. This could involve a move within the private rented sector or sustaining their current accommodation, holding a caseload and supporting applicants to find a housing solution as part of their Personalised Housing Plans in line with the Homeless Reduction Act 2017.
You will promote a range of incentives to landlords to encourage them to let their properties to potentially homeless/vulnerable households, offer support and negotiate with landlords and tenants to avoid tenancy breakdowns.
Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate advice to applicants and landlords regarding the Renters Rights Act 2025.
- Assist households at risk of homelessness or already homeless to resolve their housing situation and support them in Personalised Housing Plans.
- Promote incentives to landlords to encourage lettings to potentially homeless or vulnerable households.
- Offer support and negotiate with landlords and tenants to avoid tenancy breakdowns.
- Organise own workload, multi-task, and hold a caseload of applicants.
- Liaise internally and externally with partners.
- Represent Thanet District Council in a professional manner, working within a team or independently.
